Studio History
How We Began…
The Raven School of Dance was an idea of a few Benedictine College students. After living in Atchison for school they realized there were no facilities in Atchison for children to take dance classes. With their strong dance backgrounds and love for dance, they decided to open their own studio. Cheri Ann Menk (April 28th, 1989-May 23rd, 2009), principal founder, carried out her dream and opened The Raven School of Dance. What she started in 2008 as a studio of 50 students, has continued to grow. We have persevered through the obstacles of the pandemic and are looking forward to growing in future years. Although we are sad she is no longer with us, her legacy and passion for dance lives on. We miss Cheri dearly and are so thankful for her dedication to starting this studio.
Why We Love It…
Through the years of success here at the Raven School of Dance we have seen the benefits it has provided to the Benedictine College community, the Raven Dance Team members, and the youth of Atchison. It is our pleasure to teach your children.
What We Do…
The Raven School of Dance is an entirely student run business. All of our teachers are members of the Benedictine College Dance Team. In addition to being student athletes, they have the opportunity to grow in their teaching skills as our teachers and invest in your children.
Our mission states, “Classes will be conducted in a professional manner and will reflect the value of Benedictine College.” As Benedictine College Students, RSD teachers take the college’s values seriously. Consequently, classes will be a safe environment for children to learn dance and have fun.
During the first semester, the dancers learn proper technique and grow in their skills. In the second semester, they learn their recital dances while still building on their technique.
All dance recitals are held at Benedictine College. These performances allow the dancers to showcase their newly-formed skills for friends and family.
